Most Endangered

We are creating a Top 10 Endangered List so that you can follow the sites we feel are in the most danger of disappearing. While we keep track of many more properties, there are locations whose significant historical resources are in danger of demolition or severe alteration. Requests for new development and alteration are hard to track. Our hope with this list is to show where you can become the most effective advocate in the fight to save resources. One swing of a wrecking ball is all it takes to wipe out history.

Historic Resources

Hollywood Heritage is committed to the protection and preservation of historic resources in the Hollywood Area. This is why we track development projects and try to protect existing resources. Our plan is to tell the stories of as many of these properties as we can so you can see the variety of work we do in each of these areas. Each site has its own story but there are themes and patterns of development that show the things they have in common. Our aim is for all of you to become the storytellers, to hold the heritage of the community.

Miniatures

A core activity of the PRC is the slow and steady renovation of the 1930’s miniature of Hollywood Boulevard. This is such a vital project because not only does it offer a snapshot into a particular era of Hollywood development, but it serves as a teaching tool. It is a microcosm of the real world, allowing us to practice the tenets of preservation on a smaller scale. For example, many visitors do not know that the miniature was altered over the years, challenging us on questions of its conservation.
