PRESERVATION MONTH IS OVER

BUT THERE IS STILL PLENTY TO DO AND SEE TO SUPPORT THE CAUSE!

This year Preservation Month was completely VIRTUAL! Check it out HERE.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation collected great and engaging resources this year to dive deep into our heritage and become involved in preservation no matter where you live. Check out their site as they add more resources and programs!

The nationwide effort is led by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which provides media and organizational material to local advocates like Hollywood Heritage.  Activities in other years have included tours of Hollywood Boulevard, historic neighborhoods such as Whitley Heights and Las Colinas Heights, special events at the Hollywood Studio Museum, and educational programs. This year, we won’t be doing those group activities, but we hope to bring you more information about these places in upcoming posts, articles and other activities throughout the month.

National Historic Preservation Month was established in 1973, and is celebrated by national, state, and local preservation groups and historical societies nationwide.  Business and civic organizations have partnered as well, as communities plan events to promote historic places for the purpose of instilling national and community pride in historic buildings, promote heritage tourism and showing the economic and social benefits of preservation.

One of the most successful campaigns generated from the project has been “This Place Matters” (#ThisPlaceMatters), an interactive way for each community to acknowledge their special places.  Hollywood Heritage has participated in this campaign for several years, and collects submissions from its members and residents for its archives as well as passing them on to the Trust.

Hollywood is full of iconic places, locations known to the world through movies and television.  It is also home to picturesque neighborhoods and places of work that are not so well known.  In this time of social distancing, we encourage you to document your special place by downloading the sign and then sending a picture of your special place/s to us at support@hhprc.org.

May is always a beautiful month in Hollywood, and we look forward to your photographs of the historic places you value.
